Not a Poet
I have often said that I don’t really ‘do’ poetry. But at the Carnegie Writers Conference, when I wrote “To Olivia”, I was challenged on that notion. I spent a day stewing on the idea, and came up with this.
————
I am not a Poet.
Lyrical thoughts have
Never been me
Well, rarely
I am not a Poet.
I can't hold a rhythm
Or find the right mix of sounds
I am not a Poet.
Except once or twice
A decade
Or half
Maybe, every so often, two in two weeks.
Poetry isn't really
For me
I've found.
"So, what is this?"
I am not a Poet.
So I must be an imposter-
This is a fluke.
I'll just add it
To
The
Pile.
