I Am Death

I am Death,

skulking in the shadows near.

I douse the spark

of life’s last ember.

Dying man, beware,

Hooded and cloaked in dark robes

I come for your soul

to drag you to Hell.

But I cannot touch

the one blessed with holy light.

Sacred blood shields the soul,

blocking my assault.

Alas, brave Christian,

you fear not my coming here.

You look in my eyes

challenging my strike.

You say unto me,

“Death, you may take my body,

but God holds my soul.

I shall fear you not.”
